BRING YOUR OWN IPAD

Session Description:

The iPad Bootcamp is for everyone. It provides participants with:

  • an overview of the various accessibility features built into the iPad using the new iOS 11 operating system;
  • an overview of over 50 ways to adapt the iPad to accommodate for physical, vision, hearing, communication and intellectual disabilities;
  • hands-on activities in creating iPad access solutions;
  • demonstrations of how to create a switch access recipe and innovative ways to use these recipes for individuals who experience physical disabilities;
  • demonstrations of iPad accessories; exploration of apps for functional limitations (text to speech and speech to text apps for learning disabilities;
  • apps for blind and low vision; apps for deaf and hard of hearing; alternative and augmentative communication
  • apps for executive function impairments;
  • reminding and prompting apps;
  • apps for self-regulation and relaxation; for aging; for employment/transition, and job coaching;
  • 101 uses for the iPad camera;
  • resources for finding and selecting appropriate apps and hands-on experience in conducting an app analysis to identify specific features when matching an app with specific functional limitations.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Therese Willkomm

Dr. Therese Willkomm, PhD, ATP, is an amazing Assistive Technology magician who has invented over 1,200 different Assistive Technology solutions including 50 different iPad solutions for people with disabilities. She is known nationally and internationally for her unique five minute approach to creating solutions using 10 basic hand tools and 30 different every day materials. She has presented in 47 states and eight foreign countries. Dr. Willkomm has authored 22 publications including "Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes - Make a Difference Today" and "Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes- Book 2 – Ordinary Items Extraordinary Solutions". Dr. Willkomm holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science and Technology and is the director of New Hampshire's state wide Assistive Technology program. She is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy ar the University of New Hampshire and oversees the graduate certificate program in assistive technology at UNH.
